There’s something incredibly satisfying about melting wax — watching it slowly transform as rich, comforting fragrance fills your space. At Allure Wax Works, we believe that wax melts should be more than just scent, they should be part of a ritual. Whether you’re new to wax melts or a longtime fan, a few simple habits can help you get the most out of every single cube.
Here’s our comprehensive care guide to help you use and enjoy your wax melts safely, effectively and beautifully.
Before You Begin
How to Store Wax Melts
Just like candles, wax melts can lose their potency over time if not stored correctly. To preserve their fragrance and shape, keep them in a cool, dry place—away from direct sunlight and humidity. A drawer, closed cabinet, or decorative tin works beautifully.
Avoid extreme temperatures, especially in warmer months, as melts can soften or warp in the heat. If you live in a particularly hot climate, consider storing extras in an airtight container in a shaded area of your home.
Pro Tip: Store different scents separately to prevent fragrance crossover.
When You Melt
Use the Right Warmer
Choose a quality wax warmer designed for your preferred wax melt size and material. Electric ceramic warmers offer a consistent temperature and eliminate open flame, while tealight warmers give you a more traditional feel with a soft ambient glow.
Be sure your warmer is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface and never left unattended while in use.
Don’t Overfill the Dish
One or two cubes are usually enough to fill a room with scent. Overfilling your warmer can cause wax to spill over once melted, creating mess and potential fire hazards.
Start small — you can always add more later if you want a stronger throw.
Let the Scent Fill the Room Naturally
Allow the wax to melt fully and gently scent your space. Avoid stirring or poking the wax once melted, as this can break down the fragrance oils faster.
And remember, fragrance strength can vary depending on the size of your space, ceiling height, and air circulation. Give it a few minutes to work its magic.
Use in Well-Ventilated Spaces
While non-toxic wax melts are a safe and clean alternative to traditional candles, it’s still best to use them in well-ventilated areas. This helps maintain healthy indoor air and prevents scent fatigue (when your nose gets too used to a smell to notice it anymore!).
Once You’re Done
Turn Off or Extinguish Your Warmer
When you’re finished enjoying your melt, turn off your electric warmer or blow out the tealight underneath. Never pour hot wax down the sink or drain. Let it fully cool and harden in the warmer dish before removing.
Reuse or Replace
Unlike candles, wax melts don’t evaporate—they just lose their scent over time. You can reuse the same wax until it no longer throws fragrance. Once it’s done, allow it to harden and gently pop it out. If needed, place the dish in the freezer for a few minutes to make removal easier.
Then wipe your warmer dish clean with a paper towel before adding a fresh cube.
Bonus Tips
Mix and Match Scents
Feel like experimenting? Try combining two different melts to create a custom scent blend. Just be sure to use high-quality, clean-burning melts (like ours) to avoid any clashing or overpowering results.
Keep It Clean
Avoid letting dust or debris collect in your warmer dish between uses. A clean warmer ensures the best scent performance and prevents burnt residue from lingering in future melts.
Create a Cozy Atmosphere Without the Flame
Wax melts are a beautiful, flameless way to scent your space—and when used with care, they can offer long-lasting fragrance and relaxation. Whether you’re unwinding after a long day or hosting a cozy gathering, they help create the perfect mood, safely and effortlessly.
